Stories of Return

Life in CYPRUS

Mr. Abdul Majeed came to Cyprus in February 2006 as a student. He qualified the Travel & Tourism and Interior Design diplomas.

The decision to go

Mr. Abdul spoke to AVR Cyprus when he realized that he couldn’t extend his residency in Cyprus.  As he finished his study in Cyprus, there was not any other option available for him.  “AVR Cyprus offered me a dignified way to return along with financial support… I got a sense of courage to return to Philippines and start a business...”

As Abdul was irregular for 2 years, he could apply for the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme, which entitled him up to €1000 to buy electronics, clothes, before he returns to Pakistan.

Plans for the future

The AVR programme gave to Abdul the ability to seek his future dreams back to his homeland. “I have dreams for my life again, after years… I believe that I gained knowledge and experience from Cyprus which I can use back to my country…”
