Stories of Return

Life in CYPRUS

MARGARITA AYASON PAAT came to Cyprus in May of 2001 as a Domestic Worker. She is married and has 3 children; 2 boys (22 y. and 14 y.) and a girl (18 y.).

The decision to go

Mrs.  Margarita participated in AVR Cyprus when she realized that she had to leave Cyprus, as she couldn’t extend more her residence here. “AVR Cyprus offered me a dignified way to return along to financial support… I got a sense of courage to return to Philippines and start a business...”

As Mrs.  Margarita was irregular for  4 years,  she could apply for Assisted Voluntary Return Programme, which entitled her up to €1000 to buy electronics, clothes, shoes and to start a business, when she returned to Philippines.

Plans for the future

AVR programme gave Mrs. Margarita the opportunity and the kind of support that she needed to help her to settle back in Philippines. “I have dreams for my life again, after years… I believe that I gained knowledge and experience from Cyprus which I can use back to my country…”
